Closer Collaboration between St. Lucia and St. Vincent |
St.
Lucia’s Prime Minister, Hon. Dr.
Kenny D. Anthony, and his
Vincentian counterpart, Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, discussed banana-related
developments and a number of bilateral issues during a meeting here on Tuesday.
The specific focus
of their discussion on bananas was the management and operations of the St.
Lucia-based Windward Islands Banana Development and Exporting Co. Ltd. (WIBDECO)
which markets Windwards bananas in Europe.
The meeting
also examined a proposal for the posting of Vincentian Immigration and Customs
officers at St. Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport. This move is intended
to facilitate the quick dispatch of
St. Vincent-bound travellers without the need for further clearance on their
arrival in Kingstown.
Dr. Anthony and Dr.
Gonsalves also discussed closer collaboration between their security forces to
crackdown on illegal activities
between the southern point of St. Lucia and the northern point of St. Vincent.
The Vincentian Prime Minister was in St Lucia to participate in celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). |
