Changes Coming to Vieux Fort School |
Friday, July 13, 2001
– The Ministry of Education is embarking on a far-reaching programme to
transform the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School.
The changes include implementation of some recommendations made by a
commission that was established to examine institutional strengthening of the
school.
Permanent Secretary, Dr. Didacus Jules, said an important recommendation
that will be implemented would see the separation of the two campuses, so that
each can serve as a full-fledged secondary school.
“We are going to develop a
phased action plan for the transformation of the Vieux Fort Comprehensive
Secondary School,” he said.
“Among the issues that the Ministry has already started taking some
action on is the question of security because it is well recognized that that is
a major concern and through the instrumentality of the Prime Minister, we were
able to get a special allocation for the fencing of the school,” he added.
Day time security personnel at the school are to receive training and
will be provided with two – way radios to better carry out their duties.
School infrastructure, for example the laboratories, are also earmarked
for improvement.
Dr Jules said during the coming year officials of the Ministry plan to work closely with staff and students to address the issue of discipline and promoting an enhanced image of the school. |
