Friday May 18, 2001 – St. Lucia's population will be determined on Census Day, May 22, 2001. In the pre-census period, scores of enumerators around the island are collecting data on the population.

On Census bay, persons will be asked where they spent Census night (the period up to midnight on May 22, 2001). All members of the household enumerated during the preliminary enumeration and found absent on Census night either because of death, no longer a member of the household, permanent migration, etc., will be deleted from the household. This does not apply to those persons who because of their work will be away from their household on Census night. These persons will be noted as having spent Census night in the household.

This issue forms part of the 2001 Housing and Population Census Questionnaire which has been formulated to address the many shortcomings experienced in previous census takings and the current needs of the St. Lucia society. Census officials recognise that of greatest importance are the responses and full participation of the citizens.
