special children's campFriday, August 10, 2001 - A three –week summer camp for children with special disabilities has been dubbed a success. The camp, which came to a close Friday, August 10, 2001, was organized by the Child Development and Guidance Centre and involved a parents’ component which provided assistance to parents in dealing with children with special disabilities.

According to Director of the Child Development and Guidance Centre Dr. Bridget Shuling it was three weeks of hard work, a lot of patience, a lot of persistence and a lot of fun.    “All children progressed in some way or another in their ability to communicate, in their ability to be more independent and their ability to move more independently,” Dr. Shuling explained.

Special Education Officer in the Ministry of Education Cynthia Weeks believes such efforts towards the development of children with special disabilities are significant and expressed the ministry’s total support for the camp.

The camp had as it’s theme “Moving Towards an Independent Future.
