May 17, 2001 – The
Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) is targetting 200 unemployed young people with a
$400,000 training initiative aimed at equipping them with various skills for the
world of work. The
initiative, expected to be launched within the next three months, is aimed at
18-25 year olds. Interested persons are invited to visit the office of the BNTF
or community development officers in their areas for application forms and other
relevant information. The
training, which includes attachments to small businesses, will cover
hairdressing, hotel operations, catering, among other areas.
The training will be facilitated by the National Research Development
Foundation (NRDF) and the National Skills Development Centre and will run for
about four months. A project proposal is going before the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) with a view to getting support from this regional institution. |
