Tourism Vendors Prepare for Association |
The National Conservation Authority (MCA.) in collaboration with the St. Lucia Rural Enterprise Project (SLRep) and the Soufriere Development Foundation will hold a one-day workshop for vendors operating within the tourism industry in Soufriere, on Monday January 17, 2000. The main objectives of the workshop are to: assist members of the steering committee to acquire leadership skills needed to run an association effectively, outline the basic requirements prior to the formation of a vendors association, and identify the role of members elected to serve on the association's executive. The workshop will be facilitated by the Director of the St. Lucia Rural Enterprise Project, Mr. David Demacque and Mr. Emmanuel Haynes also of SLRep. The N.C.A. has held a series of meetings with the Soufriere vendors out lining the advantages of being represented by an association and the importance of being licensed in accordance with the N.C.A. act. Officials of the SL Rep meanwhile have pledged their commitment to assist vendors to improve the quality of the goods they offer for sale, and with marketing strategies.
