St. Lucia Donates Medical Supplies to Venezuela |
Contact: Julita Peter Tuesday, January 4, 2000 - The government of St. Lucia has donated medical supplies at an estimated cost of Seven Thousand Eastern Caribbean Dollars ($7,000.00) to the Government of Venezuela. The donation came in response to a request by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CEDERA), to assist Venezuela after heavy rains and landslides last month claimed thousands of lives. National Disaster Preparedness Coordinator Timothy James says although St. Lucia is still grappling with its own situations in Marchand and Soufriere the government felt the urgent need to assist with this small but significant donation. He added that the donation is an indication of the amicable relationship between the two governments. The supplies were officially handed to Charge d’ Affaires of the Venezuelan Embassy here Rafael Barrreto on Monday. St. Lucia is expected to give additional assistance later in the year. |
