Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence Coming |
Wednesday, February 02, 2000 – Terms of Reference have been drawn up for the development of the much talked about home for victims of Domestic Violence. Director of the Family Violence Prevention Branch in the Province of Manitoba, Canada, Marlene Burtrand is assisting Saint Lucia in the process. Ms. Burtrand was in St. Lucia during the last two weeks and while here assisted in identifying a building for accommodating the shelter. Some of the terms of reference for the work to be done are "to develop guidelines and operation procedures for the shelter, to develop a programme plan for the rehabilitation of clients, to develop a protocol for the management of cases of family violence, to assess and make recommendation for the required linkages and networking with the Saint Lucia Police Force," Burtrand said. The process will include systematic training and public awareness on the issue of family violence. Burtrand said she is pleased with the strides that have begun here in Saint Lucia to address the problem of gender violence. |
