Sesenne Top's Queen's Birthday Honours List

Friday, June 16, 2000 - Eleven St. Lucians are to receive honours on the occasion of the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second this year.

Topping the honours list is St. Lucia’s own Queen of Folk Marie Selipha Sesenne Descartes. Mrs Descartes has been a recipient of the St. Lucia Medal of Merit (SLMM) and the British Empire Medal Civil Division (B.E.M).

Her latest award will be the Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (D.B.E) that is being made possible through a special plea on the part of government, given that St. Lucia has exceeded it quota of awards in that category. The award is being granted in recognition for services to Folk, Culture and Art and to the Community on the occasion of the twenty-first anniversary of St. Lucia’s Independence.

Cornell Waldemar James Christopher Charles will receive the C.M.G, Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George Award for his service to Business and Commerce.

Awards for Ordinary Officers of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire will go to Michael Peter Bartlett for service to St. Lucia and to George Stanley Oliver Charles for service to the Armed Forces, Sports and to the Community.

M.B.E Awards will go to Laurie Michael Emmanuel Auguste for service to Public Administration and Sports Development, Percival Mc.Donald for service to the Public and Community, Martha Pierre for service to the Community and Education and Rupert Martin Polius for service to Sports.

The British Empire Medal (B.E.M.) Civil Division Award will go to Pius Bastien, Lucy Honora-Gaspard and Augustus Obed Belmar Regis for service to the Community.
