Wednesday, November 08, 2000 – Newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Saint Lucia His Excellency Mr. Ulrich Nitzschke says his government is committed to strengthening the ties of friendship, which presently exist between Saint Lucia and Germany.

"My country is also determined to live up to its responsibility as one of the major political and economic actors in the international arena. The Governor General assured the ambassador that Saint Lucia too, is committed to regional cooperation and would welcome any support, which would enable Saint Lucia to assume a leadership role in the sub regional and regional structures and institutions to which Saint Lucia is a party. "I would like to acknowledge Germany’s support in this regard. I am perhaps more familiar with the significant contribution which you have made and continue to make to the region through the Organsiation of Eastern Caribbean States in the area of Technical and Vocational Education and to the Caribbean Development Bank. We are pleased to hear you renew Germany’s commitment to the strengthening of these and other regional organisaitons," Dame Pearlette ended.
