Moreau Farm Irrigation Up and Running Again |
Contact: John Emmanuel Monday, February 14, 2000 – A one of a kind system designed by the Ministry of Agriculture, aimed at assisting farmers in the island’s interior in irrigating their farms, has been re-commissioned. Director of Agricultural Services, Julius Polius says, "Now that the damaged pipes have been replaced, the system is up and running once again." He indicated that a meeting has been planned for February 24, 2000 with farmers of the area, to brief them on the use and proper maintenance of the system. The innovative system located in Moreau, quarter of Micoud, allow farmers to harness river water via an intricate network of pipes. The network can irrigate between four to six farms on a rotational basis and will be solely managed by farmers themselves. The system was first commissioned towards the middle of 1999 but was vandalized at the end of the year. Ministry officials are at a lost in determining a reason behind the vandalism. |
