LUCELEC Operations to be Reviewed |
Contact: Rose Marie Harris Wednesday, January 5, 2000 - A Team to review the operations of the Saint Lucia Electricity Company (LUCELEC) has been appointed. Professor Ken Julien, a retired Professor of Electrical Engineering of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, will head the team. Other members are the famous consumer and public utility expert, Mr. Wendell McClean of UWI, Cave Hill, Barbados who will be the government’s representative on the Review Team and Managing Director of the Saint Vincent Electricity Company Limited, Joel Huggins who will represent LUCELEC. It is expected that the team will commence work early in the New Year and in keeping with government’s commitment to openness, public hearings will be held at the appropriate time. Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony who made the announcement in his New Year’s Message says government expects this exercise to lead to further improvement in the country’s ability to deliver a cost effective service and more equitable electricity rates for ordinary consumers. |
