Jazz Ticket Sales Increase |
By Cletus Felix Wednesday, May 24, 2000 - Preliminary estimates reveals that the St. Lucia Tourist Board achieved a 36% increase in ticket revenue for the recently ended 2000 Jazz Festival over the 1999 festival. According to Louis Lewis, Information Systems Manager a record number of 11,044 visitors were on island specifically for the Jazz Festival. As in previous years, the majority of these arrivals were for the Caribbean region (4417), followed closely by the United States (3227), with the United Kingdom falling into third place with 1944 visitors. A closer look at the Caribbean market arrivals reveals a correlation between those islands in which special promotions and marketing activities were conducted and increases in arrivals from these islands. These include islands such as Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada, St. Vincent, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, and the USVI. Unusually the statistics show a slight drop in arrivals from the French islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe during the Jazz period. The St. Lucia Tourist Board is conducting a more in-depth analysis of the impact of the Jazz Festival. Feedback from visitors on island however was generally positive with many dubbing the festival as the ‘best one yet.’ Part of the success of the festival is attributable to the growth of the fringe activities such as Jazz in the South and Jazz on the Square many of which are free of charge venues. The dates for the 2001 Jazz Festival are May 4th –13th . For further information contact the St. Lucia Tourist Board at telephone 452 4094, fax 453 1121, or email slutour@candw.lc |
