Thursday, October 19, 2000 - Officials of the Department of Youth and Sports say they have received the nod of approval and are now awaiting concrete proposals from Chinese officials, in assisting with the construction of a multi-purpose court and human resource development centre (HRDC) for the community of Ti Rocher/Guesneau.

On Wednesday, October 18, 2000, representatives of the Department of Youth and Sports led a multi-sectoral team on a tour of the proposed site, located in the Castries East Constituency.

“The facility will be a complete one with court, fencing, lighting etc. We have been able to get the nod of approval from the Chinese and at the moment, we are awaiting definite word that a certain amount will be received to assist with the establishment of this facility. The human resource centre is going to be funded by the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), with the assistance of the community. We are also awaiting final word from the BNTF.  It’s a project that will cost in the vicinity of $208 thousand. The court on the other hand will cost in the region of $210 thousand. The HRDC will house a post office, library with internet facilities, a change room and bath to complement the court, along with a number of other important facilities needed for human resource development in a community,” said Anselma Calderon, Senior Youth and Sports Officer in the Department of Youth & Sports.

The Ti Rocher/Guesneau community has already pledged over 40 thousand dollars in cash and kind towards the project, while government is pumping $80,000 of STABEX funds into the initiative.
