Thursday, January 13, 2000 – A seventy five thousand dollar ($75,000) Nature Reserve and Historical Site will soon be established in the Fond Dor Area in Mabouya Valley, Dennery. Already, work on the infrastructure has begun and February will see the opening of the Nature Reserve.

According to consultant to the project, Gregor Williams, the site will cater primarily to schoolchildren in that area. "The design and the interpretation are geared for school children to come in. We have some ideas where we will use the mill setting for a cultural area, where people could have their festivities, their wedding," Williams said.

The interpretation centre is located on one of the viewing points and someone visiting the centre will have a clear view of the sea, the coastline and the valley. "The site has tremendous potential for tourist development, for recreational development, for educational development for the people of the valley and its going to be a nice surprise when people go there," Williams ended.

The project is being funded by the European Union, the Nature Heritage Tourism Programme and the Mabouya Valley Development Project and forms part of the Saint Lucia Heritage Tourism Programme.
