New Day Care Centre for Cul-de-Sac |
Thursday, January 20, 2000 – A new day care estimated at over three hundred thousand dollars ($300, 000.00) will soon be constructed in Cul-de-Sac. Last Wednesday, government officials along with residents of Cul-De-Sac gathered to witness the sod-turning ceremony. The project is the second in a series of similar projects funded through the STABEX fund. Two weeks ago, the sod was turned for a new day care centre to be constructed in the community of La Caye Dennery. Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development Hon. Jon Odlum says, "Throughout St. Lucia the clamor for day care centres is great." He indicated that government agreed to construct the new facility with a focus on human development to replace the present centre, which has been operating under unsanitary conditions. The Planning Division of the Ministry of Planning designed the architectural plan for the centre. It is envisaged that the six-room structure will also enhance the quality of childcare services. The centre is expected to be completed by May this year and will accommodate about forty children. |
