Chassin to Receive Pipe Borne Water |
Contact: John Emmanuel Tuesday, May 23, 2000 - Residents of Chassin, Babonneau are in line to receive pipe borne water for the first time. Planning and Housing Minister Honourable Dr. Walter Francois gave residents that commitment, following a tour of the area last week. According to Dr. Francois, "I have been assured by the Poverty Reduction Fund that the material for this water project, ordered by WASCO, is already at the docks. When I get into the office I will attempt to get the funds released from our EU and STABEX arrangements so that they will be transferred to the Poverty Reduction to have the project implemented quickly." The Housing Minister has meantime appealed to residents in nearby areas like Plateau, Resina and Desbarras to take advantage of WASCO’s free water connection campaign. "One of the conditions in the establishment of WASCO was to provide new connections free, that is without a connection charge and this is nearing an end so I would urge all persons who would like water for the first time to make an application and to utilize this opportunity," Francois said. Dr. Francois along with the Minister of Communications Works, Transport and Public Utilities Senator the Honourable Calixte George accompanied the Parliamentary Representative for Castries North-West/Babonneau Honourable Michael Gaspard on a comprehensive tour of the constituency last week. Mr. Gaspard has expressed satisfaction with the commitments from the Ministers at improving living conditions for persons within the constituency. |
