Bouton Receives Electricity |
Wednesday, February 09, 2000 - The community of Bouton has come out of the dark. That is how Parliamentary Representative for Soufriere, the Honourable Dr. Walter Francois, put it as a large number of government officials and private sector representatives witnessed the official electrification of Bouton on Friday, February 04, 2000. Dr. Francois suggested that the inauguration of electricity services in Bouton is only the beginning of many good things to come to the community. He said government had started work on the roads and very soon will address water and telephone needs. The Parliamentary Representative said there would also be experiments with cottage industries as the intention is to boost economic activity in the Bouton community during the year. Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony who was also present at the ceremony, lamented that communities such as Bouton could remain so long without basic amenities and promised his government’s active pursuit of the provision of the amenities necessary for day-to-day community activities in other part of the island. Gifta Jongue, the chairperson of the Bouton Development Committee, underscored the importance of the electrification of Bouton and saw it as providing additional impetus for expansion of the community’s economic base. Bouton’s connection to the national electricity grid relieves the pressure on a solar electrification system that was installed at the Bouton school last year. |
