St. Lucia To Venture Into Telemarketing Services |
Contact: John Emmanuel Tuesday, October 10, 2000 – An exciting new dimension of St. Lucia’s economy is about to become reality with the advent of telemarketing services on the island. That is according to the General Manager of the National Development Corporation (NDC) Elizabeth Charles-Soomer. The specific telemarketing service being explored is call centres, which are a popular marketing tool for a range of companies. Mrs. Charles-Soomer is of the view that call centres will offer numerous advantages to St. Lucia and will make a significant dent in the island’s unemployment figures. "Call centres generate quite of lot of employment, especially for young people who are capable of maximizing modern technology. Another very important advantage is that telemarketing or a call centre operation sets a platform for a lot of other important developments that take you higher up the value added chain." The NDC is planning a series of training sessions and seminars in preparation for this new development. Two consultants will be on island in coming weeks to assist in the coordination of these sessions. |
