Housing Ministry Attempts Mail Order Survey |
Contact: John Emmanuel Tuesday, October 10, 2000 - The Ministry of Planning, Development, Environment and Housing has initiated the second phase of a comprehensive package of assistance from Government, in relation to low cost housing. Housing Planner Dr. Marilyn Morris says, via a mail order survey, St. Lucians are being given the opportunity to highlight their needs in terms of housing assistance. Dr. Morris says, "We are doing this throughout the island in order to determine where the needs and demands are so that we can plan good housing programmes accordingly. We are seeking, therefore, the assistance of the public in this regard. The form is very simple to fill and it will be held in the strictest confidence. What we are trying to determine in those forms is the name of the heads of the household, whether you’re single or married, the number of children under ten years old, where you would like to live, how much you’re willing to pay for this per month and how many bedrooms you’re interested in having in this house." The forms are available at postal outlets island wide, real estate offices, various government departments and selected supermarkets. The forms can be brought in to the Ministry of Housing or can be returned via free post. The deadline for submission has now been extended from October 31 to November 30, 2000 in an effort to solicit greater feedback. An analysis of the information from the mail order survey is to get underway before year’s end. |
