Monday, January 17, 2000 - Young writers of District IV - which consist of schools in Babonneau, South Castries and Anse-La-Raye - have shown the product of their intellectual labors through the second publication of a yearly school magazine, "PORTRAIT". The idea was conceptualized about three years ago, out of a District IV principals’ meeting. At that forum discussions focused on the poor writing and creative ability of a large number of students. It was then agreed that a magazine could serve as a springboard to help students put into practice the English Language concepts being taught by their teachers.

Portrait's Young WritersMinister for Education, Hon. Mario Michel, has described the project as a very impressive one, and encourages all students to contribute towards the sustenance of the magazine. He says his ministry is proud of the effort made by the District Education Officer Ms. Agatha James, and teachers and principals of District IV.

The magazine comprises stories and letters written by students from Grades 2 to7. This second edition also consists of a Guest Editorial, and a Message Column featuring Education Minister Hon. Mario Michel, and Acting Chief Education Officer, Gaspard Charlemagne. Persons wishing to obtain a copy of the magazine may do so by making a contribution of $2.00. The small contribution will be used to defray the cost of ink. PORTRAIT can be purchased from any of the schools in District IV.
