St. Lucia to Host Caribbean Common Market Customs Meeting |
September 2, 1999 - The 24th Meeting of the Customs Committee of the Caribbean Common Market will be held here from September 15 17, 1999, on the 6th floor of the new NIS Building. Several topics are down for discussion including the establishment of the Single Market and Economy and the qualification for Common Market treatment for goods produced in or shipped from free zones of CARICOM Member States. Other areas for discussion include the Status of Protocol Four focusing on trade policy, specific to customs matters, and the status of the Common External tariff and the implementation of the final stage. Members will also be expected to report on the implementation of the GATT Valuation Code. The Customs reform and modernization programme will also be discussed. Over thirty persons are expected to attend including representatives from the Ministries of Commerce and Legal Affairs. The opening session, scheduled for September 15, will commence at 9:00am. |
