PM’s Official Residence Open for School Visits from May 1 |
Contact: Roger Joseph March 16, 1999 - The Prime Ministers Official Residence at Vigie shall be open for visits by students as of May 1, 1999. Thats the word from Prime Minister Dr. Honourable Kenny Anthony. Making the announcement Tuesday, Dr Anthony said it was a decision taken on the basis of the need to share the countrys heritage with students. He explained: "Although I dont actually reside at the official residence of the Prime Minister, it is a part of the nations heritage and the people of the country as a whole must be able to share what we have." The official residence at Vigie, overlooking the George F.L. Charles airport, has been the official residence of the head of the St. Lucia government from colonial times. Since Independence in 1979, no St. Lucia Prime Minister has actually lived there, even though the spacious quarters has been used for major official receptions and other important government functions. The building was recently given a facelift and according to the Prime Minister, its doors will now be open to the public, beginning with students, many of which have made requests for visits. The Prime Minister said visits by schools can take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and interested schools should contact Mr. St. Marthe, the Steward at the Official Residence of the Prime Minister to finalise arrangements. |
