National Youth Policy by April 2000 |
August 12, 1999 - The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports has collaborated with the National Youth Council and other youth organisations throughout the island to embark on a process of formulating and implementing a National Youth Policy which is expected to be adopted in April 2000. The process was launched in May 1999 and the first National Activity, a Policy Seminar for Young Leaders, will be held on Saturday August 14, at the Micoud Secondary School. The seminar is expected to bring together about one hundred young people from registered clubs and organisations throughout the island to review documents and plan strategies for involving as many young persons as possible in the process. This is the first of many activities geared towards the adoption of the Policy. The major phases of the process include, consultations with youth leaders, agencies and youth in general, orientation seminar for the media, a national consultation, review of policies from other Commonwealth countries, compilation of discussion papers, preparation of a draft policy and consultation with major stake holders. The young people both members and non-members of clubs are encouraged to let their voices be heard in this highly significant process. The policy is expected to:
Young leaders from base communities, national leaders and Field Officers of the Ministry will be holding talks and interviews with young persons in every sector of Saint Lucia. |
