October 21, 1999 - Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony met on the weekend with residents of the three sets of government owned apartment complexes, popularly known as the CDC at their request. It was a forum for residents to bring to the attention of the Prime Minister issues that affect their tenancy.

One of the major concerns is crime and harassment, but, Prime Minister Anthony noted that it was vital that residents, especially those on the soon to be installed Tenants Association work closely with the police. "I am not saying that the police will always do their duty the right way. They will make mistakes, but also they have to learn to treat people with fairness" the Prime Minister told residents.

A number of persons, who grew up in the CDC apartments, especially in those located at La Clery, have developed strong attachments to the place. They put the question to the Prime Minister whether they could be afforded the opportunity to purchase their apartments. The Prime Minister in response indicated that Government would examine the options very closely and give a clear answer within the coming months. Government has entered an agreement with a French company, which will indicate whether the properties should be sold as they are, or after they have been re-built.

Residents have welcomed the lowering of rates for the CDC apartments, but those in arrears have asked for some special consideration, a matter the Prime Minister has indicated will be looked into.
