CARE Launches Appeal |
Contact: Richmond Felix February 15, 1999 - The Centre for Adolescent Rehabilitation and Education (C.A.R.E.) launched a raffle Monday, to raise much needed funds to meet the recurring expenditure of its centres in Castries, Gros Islet, Vigie, Anse La Raye and Canaries. In launching the raffle, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports, Honourable Michael Gaspard said "C.A.R.E. as institution has demonstrated its usefulness in society, especially where there is much concern about the future of our youth." Mr. Gaspard also expressed praise for institutions like C.A.R.E., which have taken the bold step to consider the plight of those adolescents who have almost no chances in the regular education system. In recent times the Centre has been struggling to sustain its programs. With a Government subvention of $80,000 and $95,000 generated from school fees, C.A.R.E.’s total expenditure for 1998 was approximately $290,000, resulting in a deficit of over $100,000. According to Executive Director for C.A.R.E. Brother Dominic Brunnock the bulk of expenditure goes towards salaries of C.A.R.E. staff, staff training, rental of buildings which house the various centres, and office and school supplies. In addition to meeting its financial commitments, Brother Dominic indicates that funds generated from the raffle will also go toward some major developmental plans; a ten-skilled complex, a skills centre, and re-modeling of the food preparation and catering department to bring it up to the required operating and health standards. Tickets for the C.A.R.E. raffle go on sale as of February 15, 1999. The draw will take place on May 29, 1999. |
