A New Approach to Manufacturing Coming Soon!

November 16, 1999 - The operations of the island’s manufacturing sector to be examined and reviewed in an effort to stabilise that sector so that it can once again significantly contribute to the island’s overall development.

Minister of Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs, Hon. Dr. Walter Francois says as the new millennium approaches, a more competitive approach is needed in the manufacturing sector. "I see we approaching manufacturing on a niche basis, we cannot compete producing shoes like some countries. We are not that efficient, we are not as disciplined as them towards work and retaining our country."

Shortly, a large manufacturing company – Grand Slam International - will open its doors in Vieux fort. Representatives of that company are already on island. Grand Slam International will be manufacturing for department stores in the United States. "For the JC Penny’s, for the Macy’s, for the huge stores. These garments will go straight to them, " the minister ended.
