Contact: Richmond Felix January 4, 1999 - St. Lucian aerobic champion John Antoine, is presently in training for a new phase in his career, that of competing professionally. Mr. Antoine has been in Puerto Rico since January 1, for an intensive one-week training camp conducted by that countrys national aerobics coach. Last week, Mr. Antoine was presented with a cheque for US$1,600 by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and a plane ticket complements American Airlines to cover part of the cost of his trip. In making the presentation, Sports Minister Honourable Mario Michel noted some of the athletes achievements and wished him well, as he took up the new challenge. "Mr. Antoine has been participating in aerobic tournaments since 1995 and has won no less than 11 championships among them Mr. Caribbean, The Rising Star Tournament, and the World Aerobics Championship," said Michel. John Antoine will be competing in his final World Aerobics Championship in February where he hopes to win gold in both the floor and step routines. In July, John will attend the World Sports Aerobics Championships at which he is determined to give nothing short of his best. Antoine says "Basically what I really need to work on right now is technique. The flexibility is there, the strength is there, so once I have the gymnastic technique I think Ill be o.k." |
