Contact: John Emmanuel October 12, 1999 - A plan of Action has been arrived at aimed at tackling the issues of Early Childhood Development and Women's Health. The plan came out of the just concluded 9th Conference of Spouses of Heads of State and Government that took place in Ottawa, Canada. St. Lucia's delegation to the conference included Education Officer for Early Childhood Services in the Ministry of Education - Magaritte Gustave, St. Lucia's Ambassador to the OAS Sonia Johnny and Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy. "The participation of international agencies like UNECEF and PAHO assured funding for programmes in these areas so that what we need to do as follow up to this conference is to access those programmes and coupled with our own resources attempt to implement as much as possible, the Ottawa Plan of Action," said Dame Pearlette Louisy. St. Lucia played Host to the Conference of Spouses of Heads of State and Government back in 1994. |
