St. Lucia Assists Disaster Stricken Islands

September 29, 1998 - Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony has promised EC$150,000.00 worth of building materials to assist the disaster relief effort in St. Kitts/Nevis. The material is to go towards the school repairing and rebuilding process to facilitate the speedy reopening of schools.

Dr. Anthony has also pledged EC$75,000.00 towards assist Antigua’s rebuilding process. The money will be used to purchase plywood.

The Prime Minister committed these funds on Monday, during a fact-finding visit to the Leeward Islands that were ravaged by Hurricane Georges last week. Dr. Anthony says, St. Lucia is extending that kind of assistance to its sister territories in the same way they have assisted us in the past.

The St. Lucia Marine Unit will be leaving the island this weekend with the building material and other supplies. The Prime Minister expresses his thanks to all those who have contributed to the relief effort. To those who have not, he says there is time to do so before the Marine Unit leaves on the weekend.
