Prime Minister to Visit Trinidad and Tobago |
October 30, 1998 - Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, will pay an official state visit to Trinidad and Tobago from November 01 05, 1998. The visit is in response to a long-standing invitation by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. However, various commitments have prevented Prime Minister Anthony from accepting the invitation before now. The state visit was originally scheduled for September 21 25, but at the time Saint Lucia was being threatened by Hurricane Georges and Prime Minister Anthony postponed the visit. During his visit this week, Dr. Anthony will meet with government leaders as well as several private sector organisations including the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Commerce, the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association, the Small Business Development Corporation and the National Insurance Property Development Company (NIPDEC). The Prime Minister is also expected to tour the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation as well as Tobago. While in Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Anthony will take the opportunity to meet with St. Lucian students and other St. Lucian nationals. The visit will end with a joint press conference hosted by the two Prime Ministers, before which they are expected to sign a Joint Declaration committing the two countries to work towards further strengthening of relations between them. The Prime Ministers delegation to Trinidad and Tobago will include the Minister for Commerce, Industry and Consumer Affairs, Honourable Walter Francois, the Cabinet Secretary, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President of the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, the General Manager of the National Development Corporation, the President of the National Workers Union, the Principal Information Officer and the President of the St. Lucia Media Workers Association. |
