June 17, 1998 - Some five million US dollars is to be made available to St. Lucia via an aid memoir signed with the World Bank.  The money will go towards the Poverty Reduction Fund, which is partly supported by the Government of St. Lucia.

Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony says that he expects to launch the fund following the CARICOM Heads of Government Summit here in July.

Dr. Anthony recently returned from New York where he and other OECS heads sign a major telecommunications project.  The initiative is expected to enhance OECS negotiations with telecommunications giant, Cable & Wireless.

Within the next few months the mechanism will be put in place to begin the process of negotiating licensing arrangements with Cable & Wireless.
