By John Emmanuel

September 7, 1998 - St. Lucian’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony will later this month join commonwealth counterparts at the annual Commonwealth Finance Minister Meeting. The September 29 - October 1 meeting will take place in the Canadian capital Ottawa.

The meeting will be chaired by Canada’s Minister of Finance the Hon. Paul Martin and will bring together ministers and delegations from 54 member countries of the Commonwealth. The main topics expected to be discussed includes an initiative to strengthen financial regulation and supervision, good governance and the elimination of corruption in economic management, the provision of relief to heavily indebted poor countries and the critical resource situation of the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation.

The Commonwealth Finance Ministers meeting is held just before the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which this year will take place in Washington, DC. Ministers and senior officials will have an opportunity to exchange views on subjects that are likely to be on the IMF-World Bank meeting agenda.
