OECS 30th Meeting of the Authority |
Contact: Julita Peter May 25, 1998 - The OECS authority is expected to receive reports and decide on a number of recommendations designed to advance the regional integration process in the critically important areas of economic affairs, external affairs and external economic affairs when they meet on Thursday this week in Tortola. The authority at this meeting will pay particular interest to the non-independent member countries of the OECS. The discussion will be set in the context of current Britains policy regarding the islands. Also down for discussion are the functional cooperation issues relating to the environmental levy and the formation of the sub-regional ministerial mechanism for cruise tourism matters. OECS heads of government will also receive a report from a committee set up to make specific recommendations for a more reliable mechanism through which member governments might make their financial contributions to the organization. The authority will also consider a number of outstanding institutional matters. The authority meeting will be preceded by the opening ceremony to be held on Wednesday May 27th in Tortola. |
