New Culture Director Appointed

September 3, 1998 - A new Director of Culture in the person of Mr. Michael Aubertine, has been appointed as of September 1. Mr. Aubertine is an accomplished writer, has a strong background in calypso and has been instrumental in the successful execution of a number cultural activities. He has also been deeply involved in intellectual property rights, especially as it relates to local musicians and their royalties.

Mr. Aubertine previously worked with the Ministry of Tourism where he developed a Tourism Education Program. It is expected that Mr. Aubertine’s experiences will play an important part in the Ministry of Culture and the development of Culture in St. Lucia.

Culture Minister, Hon. Damian Greaves whilst indicating his pleasure at the appointment of Mr. Aubertine also had words of commendation for his predecessor, Mr. Jacques Compton, whom he says has made an indelible contribution during his tenure.
