National Consultation on Education Act |
By John Emmanuel September 10, 1998 - The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports, will next week host a National Consultation on a new draft Education Act. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Dr. Didacus Jules, says the September 15 consultation carded for the NIS conference Room, will bring together representatives of all major stakeholders in education. The project is a comprehensive attempt at educational reform to re-engineer the education systems of the OECS for the 21st century and beyond. Dr. Jules says the intention is to review the provisions of the draft Act, emanating from the OECS Harmonization of Education Legislation process. "It is very critical because there has not been any pragmatic and systematic review of the education systems in the Caribbean from since they started, they just evolved," Dr. Jules said in an interview with the Government Information Service. The consultation will provide a forum for consensus and feedback. The Attorney Generals Chambers will incorporate recommendations coming out of the discussions, into the final version of the act for parliamentary approval. Members of the public will get an opportunity to comment on the Draft Education Act before its goes to parliament. |
