21, 1998 - In March the Kiwanis club of Castries, established a fund to
provide financial assistance for a young child who needed corrective surgery for
his cleft pallet. Just two month later, young Keegan Emmanuel has received the
first contribution which will go towards a series of operations to treat his
deformity. During
a presentation ceremony Wednesday, staff members of the Government Information
Service presented Keegan and his mother with proceedings from fund raising
activities that were held to raise funds for the surgery. Dr.
Lowell A. Huges, a plastic, cosmetic and hand surgeon will soon arrive in St.
Lucia to begin the first stage of the surgery, which is to be under taken at the
Tapion Hospital. This initial stage is expected to cost in the region of
EC$5,000. Quite
a few individuals and organizations have already made contributions including
Cable and Wireless, which recently made its donation of $2500. Persons
interested in contributing to the Keegan Emmanuel fund can do so at the St.
Lucia Co-operative Bank. |
