Contact: Julita Peter June 5, 1998 - The president of the Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Junior Achievement of St. Lucia, Guy Mayers, along with David Bethea, a Peace Corps volunteer attached to the programme, are presently in Trinidad attending a regional conference on Junior Achievement. Junior Achievement is an international, non-profit organization that teaches the basics of economics and business operations in a free enterprise system. According to Mr. Mayers the programme is fast becoming a success in St. Lucia. He notes that, "it is all about getting children better prepared to face the many challenges encountered in the working environment." The St. Lucian delegation will also attend a gala presentation Saturday evening. During the ceremony participants of this years Junior Achievement programme will be awarded with special certificates and merits. Since its inception at the start of the last school year, the programme has expanded to 17 schools on the island, and further expansion is expected for next year. |
