Forest Legislation Workshop

June 22, 1998 - The Forest and Lands Department of the Ministry of agriculture, will be hosting a two day legislation workshop from June 23 to 24, 1998.  The purpose is to educate officers from the various departments of the Ministry on forest legislation and related laws.

The workshop will also serve as the means to motivate and empower environmental officers to effectively enforce these laws and to stress the point that the environment is under threat.

Participants have been gathered from the Police Department including the Marine Police Unit,  the Department of Fisheries, environmental health officers, litter wardens, agricultural farmers, pet shop owners and the media which is expected to play a special role in enabling the Forestry Department in its outreach programme in areas of the legislation that are infringed upon on a daily basis.

The specific objectives of this workshop are to ascertain from participants, problems encountered with various aspects of the relevant legislation and to suggest solutions and make recommendations to facilitate effective enforcement laws.
