Contact: Julita Peter June 4, 1998 - The Caribbees Hotel is the chosen venue for The OECS Environmental Impact Assessment Training (EIA) programme now into day four. The course is the second of two modules and is one component of a training strategy for environmental impact assessments implemented by the OECS Natural Resources Management Unit (NRMU). The exercise has drawn together participants from around the region, and is designed to provide professionals from the public, private sectors and non-governmental organization with the skills and knowledge required to review the technical aspects of EIA, to make appropriate recommendations and to supervise the implementation of their recommendations. It will also equip regulators and practitioners in the areas of planning and resources management, with the skills to be directly involved in the preparations of the environment impact assessment. Some of the areas to be addressed include Climate and Air Emissions, Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste, Sewage and Wastewater, Monitoring, Economic Aspects of EIA, Social and Public Environment and Review of EIA'S and the Comparison of Alternatives The training programme is being funded by the Caribbean Development Bank, The Commonwealth Secretariat and the German Agency for Technical Cooperation. |
