June 18, 1998 - The Ministry of Community Development is well on its way in implementing programmes which are in keeping with international expectations.  In so doing the thrust of the Ministry's  activities is based on ensuring that every citizen is involved in the decision making process.

According to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Jacinta St. Helen, "Whatever happens on the local front is dictated by developments in the international arena .. As such, the proactive approach of the global governments and funding agencies as we approach the third millennium, is to encourage local participation in the execution of projects."

The Ministry of Community Development has given birth to human resource development centres, which are to be the breeding ground for developing the skills of latent talents with community members.  "The onus is on the  Ministry to tap the natural talents of members in communities around the island," says Minister for Community Development, Damian Greaves.

Persons involved with the human resource development centres are expected to be taught a wide range of skills including book keeping and other managerial skills.  One such centre is to be constructed at Entrepot, Castries.  Is is within the ministry's shot term plans to construct such facilities throughout the island.
