November 11, 1998 - As part of its activities to celebrate its 114th Anniversary, the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture will present a debating competition in collaboration with the National Youth Council on the topic "Be it Resolved that the Manufacturing Sector has no substantial Role in the Economic Development in Saint Lucia."

The National Youth Council has provided its best debaters who will argue the pros and cons of the economic significance of the Manufacturing Sector. The current problems confronting the manufacturing sector make the subject timely and interesting.

The manufacturing sector in Saint Lucia faces numerous challenges and difficulties in its effort to survive and participate in regional and international trade. It is therefore of great importance that time be vested to study and discuss issues surrounding its strengths, weakness and future survival within the context of Saint Lucia’s future prospect for economic development.
