A Chamber of Agriculture?

September 10, 1998 - A call has been made for the establishment of an institution that will represent the commercial interest of Farmers. The call has come from the Minister of Agriculture Hon. Cassius Ellias, who is proposing the establishment of a Chamber of Agriculture that will effectively remove from the Chamber of Commerce, its responsibility for Agriculture.

The Minister for Agriculture says the St. Lucia cannot rely on the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce to develop the agricultural sector.

"I am relying on you throughout the country to begin to develop and agricultural sector, until I remove the word agriculture from the Chamber’s name. So we will have a chamber of Agriculture, so we can move agriculture forward. That is what we need and that is what I intend to do over the next few years if I remain in the Ministry Of Agriculture."
