Contact:  Office of the Prime Minister

Today (March 08, 2012) marks the observance of International Women’s Day. This year’s celebrations are being held under the theme “Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures”. The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Affairs have organized a number of activities aimed at recognizing women who have contributed to shaping the lives of generations of Saint Lucians, while inspiring others to aspire to become model women of society.

An exhibition is currently being held in the reception area, of the Sir Stanislas James Building, Waterfront, Castries, which currently houses the Ministry of Health. Women who have held high office and/or have shaped the development of our nation, such as Hon. Emma Hippolyte, Current Minister for Commerce, Mrs. Heraldine Rock, who pioneered the entry of women into politics, Mrs. Rosemarie Husbands-Mathurin, former Speaker of the House, among others are being recognized. Photographs, accompanied by short biographies are on display.

Minister Alvina Reynolds invites the general public to praise and worship to be held on Thursday, March 08, 2012 (today) at 5:00pm, at Serenity Park, Sans Souci. The spiritual development of women and the entire nation is critical in ensuring that we remain a society of morals, values and integrity.

We celebrate our achievements as one people, dedicated to facing our struggles as one nation.
