Monday, January 23, 2012 – The OECS Authority has welcomed Honourable Dr Kenny Anthony back into the grouping of regional heads of government with great optimism that he will contribute significantly to advancing the development of the region.
Dr Anthony played a pivotal role in shaping the OECS Economic Union some six years ago while serving as Chairman of the OECS. Six years later the very process which he helped conceptualised is being celebrated as a great milestone throughout the region.
Speaking that the start of the 54th meeting of the OECS Authority the Director General of the OECS Dr Len Ishmael explained that Dr Anthony brings to the OECS grouping a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise which will be to the benefit of greater integration.
“Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony, it is a special honour to get to work with you as Chairman once again. Your leadership in the course of integration and the establishment of the OECS Economic Union comes at a vital time in the historic evolution of this organisation. We welcome your counsel particularly at this moment as we seek to implement the various aspects of our Economic Union for which in many respects there are no templates. I must also place on record your role in seeing this very entity which we now celebrate – the OECS Economic Union – this journey leading to its creation began under the leader of Dr Anthony as OECS Chairman some six year ago with the establishment of the OECS Economic Union Taskforce. Much has been accomplished through the intervening years and while subsequent leaders have had to firmly steer the OECS ship through very choppy waters from time to time they have remained true to the cause. This journey continues and will undoubtedly benefit from the leadership which you now bring”.
For his part, Dr Anthony acknowledged the OECS welcome with great humility and appreciation. He expressed his commitment as OECS Authority Chairman to work with other Heads of Government to ensure the OECS Economic Union achieves its intended goals. |
