Thursday, January 19, 2012 – The Cultural Development Foundation, CDF, which now operates within the portfolio of the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries is again gearing to host the annual National Arts Festival early next month. The event targets Saint Lucian artistes of various genres and the CDF has pledged continued support though the festival in promoting the creative synergies of the country.
Marketing Officer at the CDF Jimmy Clavier says the event which mushroomed from the M&C Fine Arts Awards is also aimed at providing artistes with a platform for publicity as well as a window of opportunity to broaden their market base. “Say for example you were to put up your work at the Visual Arts Exhibition, apart from the public seeing it they will also be able to participate in acquiring some of that work and we have seen this through the years.”
The local community of artistes and artisans are being encouraged to register with the CDF by January 31st so that they too can maximize this opportunity to feature their works. There is however an extension in place for persons producing works of drama. “As it pertains to the area of drama, what we have done is, since our activities extend to April 1st, persons who have put on performances and will be putting on performances up till March 7th will be considered for adjudication in the sense that if they send in their registration and submissions by January 31st, but we will recognize work that is done up till March 07th and that is in the area of drama. Everything else will have been judged prior to that.” The event will be hosted under the theme “Inspiration through the Arts – The Journey”. The Festival opens on Wednesday, February 8th, 2012 at the National Cultural Centre.
