Initially there was some uncertainty as to whether the match between the CARICOM Heads and the University of the West Indies would come off, as sections of the field were water logged following showers the night before. But after some last minute work, closer examination and consultation the pitch was deemed fit for play.

Vice Captain Dr. Kenny Anthony
Prime Minister of St. Lucia

"I’m excited by the prospects of the game ...I know my colleagues are equally excited. We’ld be very disappointed if we can’t play. I expect a lovely match and I just hope the weather holds."

The two teams were ready to do battle, with Dr Keith Mitchel leading the CARICOM side and David Holford as Captain for the UWI. Both teams were confident for their victory.

The achievements of the West Indies Cricket is a celebrated aspect of Caribbean integration and Sunday’s match is being viewed as a fitting start of the 25th anniversary celebrations of CARICOM.
