Statement on the passing of the Right Honourable, Sir Vincent Floissac |
It is with deep sadness and regret that the Government of
Saint Lucia announces the passing of the Right Honourable Sir Vincent Floissac,
CMG, OBE, QC, LLM, former Chief Justice, and former President of the Court of
Appeal of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. He also served as Acting
Governor General of Saint Lucia during the period 1987 to 1988. Sir Vincent,
one of Saint Lucia’s most illustrious and distinguished sons, passed away at his
home on Saturday, 25th September, 2010 after a
period of illness. Sir Vincent from a very early age distinguished himself by
obtaining an open island scholarship in 1948, after which he pursued studies at
the University College, London University where he obtained an LL B degree with
honours in 1951 . He subsequently entered the Grays Inns Court School of Law
where he successfully completed the Bar Finals and was called to the Bar of
England in 1952. He obtained his LL M at London University in 1953. His long and distinguished career in the field of Law
included a stint as a member of the Seychelles Court of Appeal between 1988 to
1991. He served as the President of The Saint Lucia Bar Association for a number
of year. From 1992 he also served on the Judicial Committee of Her Majesty’s
Privy Council. As an avid sportsman he represented Saint Lucia in cricket,
football, lawn tennis and table tennis. |
