Initially there was some uncertainty as to whether the match between the CARICOM Heads and the University of the West Indies would come off, as sections of the field were water logged following showers the night before. But after some last minute work, closer examination and consultation the pitch was deemed fit for play.
The two teams were ready to do battle, with Dr Keith Mitchel leading the CARICOM side and David Holford as Captain for the UWI. Both teams were confident for their victory. In a display not lacking excitement and skill, the CARICOM Heads went into bat first, and at the end of the day they tallyed 151 for 4 in 25 overs. The University was able to muster 113 for 6 in 22.6 overs when poor lighting conditions forced the abandonment of the game. The achievements of the West Indies Cricket is a celebrated aspect of Caribbean integration and Sundays match is being viewed as a fitting start of the 25th anniversary celebrations of CARICOM. |
