Thursday 29 September 2011 Tributes from home and around the region are pouring in  as Saint Lucia on Wednesday,  September 28th   lost  renowned son of the soil  singer, musician, calpysonian, leading writer - the Mighty Pelay 'Jeff '  Elva.

Jeff Elva better known as the Mighty Pelay was  one of Saint Lucia's foremost calypsonians who had been in the business for more than 40 years before semi-retiring.

During his calypso career he was well remembered as a formidable competitor, described as standing tall on stage though wheel-chair bound for several years following an accident in the United States.

Pelay won the Calypso Monarch title a stunning seven times overall.

The former calypso monarch, also called “Mr. Consistency”   was in February elected Vice-Chairman of the   Eastern Caribbean Collective Organization for Music Rights (ECCO) Inc.

Jeff Elva will forever be etched in Saint Lucia's history for many reasons including   being the author of the Saint Lucia's Pledge of Allegiance or National Pledge.

Pelay was a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his outstanding contribution to music and the disabled.

Pelay was a member of the Ambassadors calypso tent.
